8/01/15 10:48 Billy Nice balance of clove/banana in aroma (I perceive a slight lean to banana). Tangy tartness in the flavour, low clove/banana flavour. Not as 'classic' as 2, but I prefer this beer as tartness makes refreshing.

Guess on yeast based on a very hefe flavour, but not classic, so assume an alternative wheat yeast.
Fermentis WB-06 Dry Yeast 40 More clove/banana aroma (possibly due to higher carb), stronger fruity flavours (leans to banana) - comes across as a more 'classic' example.

Guess on yeast based on classic-ness of hefe.
42 White Labs WLP300 Liquid Yeast Least aroma, I pick up some sulfur-like notes. Produces a slicker mouthfeel and an asprin-like flavour. Good beer, but the others are better.

8/01/15 19:25 Chekkie Good balance, and color but a little subdued. True to style but could be more up front with aroma. Thought the hop bitterness on the finish was a little pronounced. As it warmed up more the vanilla came through. I'm not sure at all 38 Nice forward banana and spice atom with a pleasant foundation of vanilla. Less grain in the flavor than expected but an appropriate dry finish, nice creamy head. 42 I'm not sure at all Not as aroma forward as I'd like - but the flavor is balanced. That said it's a muted here compared to #2 - depends what you like - a techniciolor or a pastel hefe. 41 I'm not sure at all

Appearance is the same between the three beers.

Low banana and clove (phenol), a bit bland. Mouthfeel is not "full" Beer is light in both flavour with low citrus kick.

I know the beer is the same this is a good but not great Heffe.

Danstar Munich Dry Yeast 34 Excellent phenols, banana and clove, lovely sustained head and light citrus aroma.

Appearance is the same all three.

Wonderful full banana and clove flavours, a full mouthfeel for a Heffe, has some citrus flavours which compliments the aroma.

A cracking beer mate. I would bet my left one this is your Heffe.

44 White Labs WLP300 Liquid Yeast Lower phenols than beer 2, but still good, as the beer warms up it the aroma fades away. Lower levels of both clove and banana. Nice.

Nice flavours but not as intense as Beer #2. Mouthfeel is the same as beer #2 (which is quite surprising), Citrus (lemons).

39 Fermentis WB-06 Dry Yeast
9/01/15 20:48 Kevin Wheat presence is clear, but not a hefeweizen. Could pass as an american wheat, but there is a pepper like phenol in the back of the flavour. Could possibly score well as an A. wheat if judges thought this was a hop spice or wheat like pepperiness. Not unpleasant, but stylistically problematic as a hef.

Kegged sample had decent acetaldeyde, but this was not present in the bottled version.

Quickly dissipating head. Marginally less turbid that others.
Danstar Munich Dry Yeast 27 Mild banana and nondescript phenol balance well but on the moderate end. Creamy mouthfeel. Could end a touch dryer.

This is close to on spot with my normal liquid hefs, but I think the summer behaviour of my ferm ramp has subdued the key hef flavours a bit too much.
40 White Labs WLP300 Liquid Yeast Aroma dominated by a strange experience. A dusty metal ghost. It's not really an aroma, more of a nasal sensation, akin to getting a nose full of dust or C02. Little hef character in the nose.

Flavour of a banana focussed hef, but subtly so. A decent example and very surprising that it's a dry yeast. Mouthfeel is creamy but cliffs off fairly suddenly. A certain bitterness that is not hop driven and doesn't quite feel carbonic either. Possibly the taste of that weird smell.
35 Fermentis WB-06 Dry Yeast
10/01/15 21:47 Stretch Overall a nice beer. nicely balanced weiss flavour and but a bit restrained in flavour and aroma, and not quite dry enough.

Lovely light gold colour, good firm white lasting head. Aroma and flavour both on the restrained side of ideal. phenols dominate aroma (little banana aroma), flavour is more balanced, nice but is restrained, doesn't 'pop'.
Mouthfeel is creamy and medium/full, feels a little too full bodied in the finish, could be a little drier.
Fermentis WB-06 Dry Yeast 34 Not great, not quite there in aroma flavour or mouthfeel, and colour is pale beige!.
Banana dominates aroma. Flavours better balanced with phenols and esters, but not prominent.
Mouthfeel suffers from thin-ness in finish.
28 Danstar Munich Dry Yeast This one is good.
Just has a really good balance in every element. Hits the balance between subtly prominent and not over the top.
Aroma banana and clove prominent and balanced, wheaty, light tartness. tight head, falls but lasting, straw/light gold colour, hazy. Rich and balanced flavour. banana and clove. creamy wheaty, slight tartness. Creamy, medium body, med carb, and slight dry spritz on finish.
40 White Labs WLP300 Liquid Yeast
11/01/15 21:01 joel good balance of clove and banana. carbonation is good. low white head, sustained, golden, cloudy. yeast character dominant in flavour, hops bitterness comes through. Fermentis WB-06 Dry Yeast 35 banana dominates in this one's aroma. carbonations is good. low white head, sustained, golden and super cloudy...sediment is evident at the bottom of the glass after 30 seconds, doesn't detract from flavour though. this one is more to style than beer 1 with what seams a fresher taste. 40 White Labs WLP300 Liquid Yeast no obvious banana or clove aroma's, wheat malt comes through. no head retention, carbonation ok, super cloudy with sediment on the bottom of the glass and heaps left over in the bottle. this has got to be the munich yeast...not your typical wheat beer, but in saying that not a bad beer, no off flavours, just a wheaty ale. kinda tastes like the bavarian wheat extract kits i used to make! hope that doesn't offend you :) 30 Danstar Munich Dry Yeast

Touch more spice to balance would make it perfect.

14/01/15 20:51 Martin Good head. Not much on the nose. OK, certainly drinkable, but a bit sort of dull. Kind of malty-but-straw-like flavour. It's a wheat beer but not a stylistically-accurate hefeweizen. I'm not sure, but I reckon it was one of the dry yeasts. 33 Smells much better than Beer 1. Head disappears immediately. Has some (but not heaps) good yeast-driven hefe flavour. This beer is clearly the best of the three: not only because it is the only one which tastes like a hefeweizen, but also because styles-be-dammed it's the most enjoyable to drink. 37 White Labs WLP300 Liquid Yeast Over-frothy on pouring. Grainy aroma. Grainy flavour giving way to a lingering soapy mouthfeel. I'm not going to finish this one. 30 I'm not sure, but I reckon it was one of the dry yeasts.

Aroma - initially seemed the most balanced of fruit/spice, but as it's warmed I'm getting apple instead of banana - is that acetaldehyde? It's quite different to the other two.
Drier flavour/finish to the other two, after an initial "soft malt".
That acetaldehyde (it I'm correct) a bit of a detractor.
First time I've ever given a bjcp score - so be gentle!
I'm picking the liquid yeast, cause you hinted something went wrong with that one.
White Labs WLP300 Liquid Yeast 36 appearance - mild haze initially, the clearest of all three, but the yeast came up with a bit more encouragement with the bottle dregs.
Aroma - more lolly banana, but overall a bit more ester/phenol balance than the others.
Flavour was well balanced, a bit sweeter from the banana flavour, but quite acceptable. Taking a stab at it being the Fermentis, just for fun.
Overall I think the best of the three.
39 Fermentis WB-06 Dry Yeast Appearance - carbonation obviously highest (thickest head) v cloudy.
Aroma more of clove, not much banana.
Flavour more of a yeast "bite", sharper, perhaps lacks some of the softness the style guide calls for.
Hard to find fault, but maybe lacking in that something that brings it to life!

Mouthfeel - Light, slightly watery? Fizzy but with a carbonic feel 2/5
Overall - I'd drink it if I was given it, but not sure I'd ask for another. Something lingering in the aftertaste that isn't that nice as it warms up. 5/10

Appearance: Straw, 4 SRM, clear, low head retention
I'm not sure, but I reckon it was one of the dry yeasts. 36 Aroma: Moderate/strong & balanced phenols and esters, hints of bread/grain and bubblegum, vanilla (& smoke when warmer) in background.

Flavour: Moderate/strong but balanced banana & clove flavours, nice spicy tartness with notes of sweet pils malt and vanilla in background, well attenuated.

Appearance: Straw, cloudy, good head

42 White Labs WLP300 Liquid Yeast Aroma: Low phenol and ester aroma, spicy with moderate notes of sulfur, pepper and vanilla (strong vanilla when warmer), sweep pils malt

Flavour: Low/moderate banana and clove flavour, sweet pils malt with a slight wheaty tartness noted, sweet finish

Appearance: very pale (1 SRM), cloudy, large persistent head (V/highly carbonated compared to 1& 2)

18/01/15 22:50 Dene Aroma: very light banana, more pleasant clove, some fruitiness. Flavour: Somewhat lacking, watery and light alcohol. Colour and aroma hit it, but not in flavour at all for me. Danstar Munich Dry Yeast 25 Aroma: light banana and a little clove, less fruitiness than sample 1. Flavour: clear flavours here, bready, and light banana and clove and alcohol. Was surprised by the bread characteristic. The spritz is nicer in this one too. 37 White Labs WLP300 Liquid Yeast Aroma: more banana and clove than the other two. Flavour: again bready up front with more clove and alcohol with a little banana thrown in. It reminds me of my own Heffe, but better. After going back and forth and back and forth. I am now preferring 3 slightly to 1. 2 is still my favorite. Possibly flaws or changes coming out to me as they warm up. Initially I was only getting banana but now I'm getting green apple
Fermentis WB-06 Dry Yeast 35 Quite sparkly, enjoying the carbonic bite. Big Rich Ripe Banana flavours dominate but also blend with the spicy notes as well. This one feels a bit richer but also more balanced compared to the other two.

After several competitive swirls and tastes, still my pick.
40 White Labs WLP300 Liquid Yeast Much less aroma overall, maybe a little because this is the third beer, but I still gets heaps of ripe banana off #2. Not sure what I don't like about this one, but it feels a little more chemical?? than the others, maybe slightly thinner. 30 Danstar Munich Dry Yeast

White Labs WLP300 Liquid Yeast 38 Subdued weizen aroma, dominated by banana with definite "lolly banana" character.

Muddy brown appearance with floaties.

Flavour slightly harsh. Mouthfeel a bit heavy.

No obvious flaws but not very pleasant either.
